CAROLS FOR CANDLEMAS CONCERT
St Nicolas Church, Cranleigh
Saturday 11th February at 4.30 pm
Are you suffering from post-Christmas blues? Then banish them by coming to Cantilena’s Carols for Candlemas Concert! Candlemas used to be regarded as the end of the Christmas season, a kind of last fling before knuckling down to the rigours of Lent and the last two months of winter. Our programme consists of music and carols through the ages with a Christmas and winter theme along with seasonal readings. You will hear medieval and renaissance ‘visiting’ carols, music from the late 16th century by Victoria and from the early 17th century by Monteverdi, plus Poulenc’s beautiful Litanies à la Vierge Noire and carols by Benjamin Britten, Darke’s In the bleak midwinter and the jolly Mistletoe Carol by Andrew Carter. There’s something for everyone!
The concert is in St Nicolas Church, Cranleigh at 4.30pm, with mulled drinks served from 4pm. The concert will finish by 6.30pm.

Sunday 6th March
We sang at the 9.30am service in St Michael's Partridge Green on Sunday 6th March.
Mass setting - Haydn: Little Organ Mass (arranged for high voices), Introi- Mendelssohn:Veni Domine and the music at Communion- Elgar's Ave verum corpus. Great to have the opportunity to sing fantastic music in its sacred context. Thanks Fr William!
Saturday 21st May
SPRING CONCERT with harpist Heather Wrighton.
The programme included Holst's Choral Hymns from The Rig Veda set 3 as well as his Two Eastern Pictures (Spring and Summer) which are old favourites of ours. These were accompanied by Heather who also played a couple of harp solos.
We sang some more music for high voices and piano by Alec Rowley, having enjoyed his work before. And we also tackled the unaccompanied Six Elizabethan Lyrics by Kenneth Leighton - not easy pieces, but we enjoyed mastering this excellent music. Various folksong arrangements by Britten, with very effective harp accompaniments, completed the programme.
Thanks to the large and very appreciative audience for supporting us - do come again!
